Cartoon from Major Player Enters NYC Mayor’s Race

NEW YORK (PIX11) — New York City Mayor Eric Adams took jabs at Mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani in a political cartoon posted on his X account Saturday evening.

Matthew Euzarraga for PIX11 reports that NYC Mayor Eric Adams and his team has posted a (what looks to be an AI generated Joseph Nebus, below, has the origin of the image) cartoon depicting the choice between him and his leading opponent ohran Mamdani.

On the right side, there is a depiction of a house shrouded in darkness, set against a cloudy sky with lightning. The words “socialism,” “crime,” “false promises,” and “Zohran Mamdani” are displayed prominently. This imagery seemingly reflects Mamdani’s political stance as a Democratic Socialist.

On the left, a house is depicted in the sun, with rays of light coming out behind it. It reads “safety, security, a better future.” Eric Adams’ name is displayed prominently.

Shouldn’t the prompters have switched the positions of the houses? If it was me I would have had the Mamdani fortress labeled “socialism” on the left and Adams’ glistening citadel on the right.

  1. Likewise. The cartoon’s creator seems cartoon-illiterate.

  2. Not very subtle, when you have a sledgehammer, everything looks like a watermelon.

  3. THIS is his ad? Now we know why Adams – the incumbent, no less – is polling dead last out of four candidates.

  4. It doesn’t really matter, as Adams is polling in single digits and everyone in NYC knows it.

Granted, the Daily News hasn’t done much in the way of the Mayoral race, cartoonwise, and neither has the Post. (the Times doesn’t do that sort of thing anymore.)

  5. Looks like the path for Adams–the incumbent–leads to a fairytale castle in the air.
We sure this isn’t secretly by Cuomo’s campaign?

  6. There might be political logic in the left-wing choice being on the left and the right-wing choice on the right, but the original meme template has good-choice-left, bad-choice-right, so that’d be the important thing. See https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/dramatic-crossroads

I don’t think the meme is AI-generated — the format first appeared in 2020 before there really was that sort of image generation, and this looks like the original, as Slylock Foxing the sun halo and the tree branches will tell you — although just being made by a meme template generator seems very likely.

    1. Thanks for the cartoon’s origin Joseph!

Since there are no words on the original it could have been reversed before script was added.

  7. Good Grief! No wonder he’s at the bottom of the heap. Instead of showing his successes, and articulating his positions and plans for the City, he does this crap.’

To be fair, the Democratic Party has been failing at showing their work for a long while now. They are depending on slagging off the current, failing administration. That trick only goes so far. It’s long past time to focus on WHAT THEY CAN DO FOR AMERICA rather than focusing on what the current administration IS DOING TO AMERICA.
