Scores of Cartoonists (So Far) Stand With Ann Telnaes – Update
Skip to commentsEditorial cartoonist Ann Telnaes, late of The Washington Post, has written a note of gratitude for the support shown to her following her standing up to the WaPo’s staff trying to control her cartoon’s subject matter:
I wanted to say how much I appreciate and am sincerely touched by all your notes of support. Because I work on my own and the amount of correspondence received since Friday evening, I’m still wading through all the emails so please have patience with me. I am truly grateful for your encouraging words, the letters written to the Post which you’ve shared with me, and your articulate views about the state of our free press. Thank you also to my fellow substackers for their posts.
She also observes that, “My colleagues have been so supportive.”
They have indeed! Following the advice of Steve Brodner and the AAEC cartoonists around the world have done “a finished version of her rough and post[ed] it in solidarity with Ann.”
Below are some of the results.
With the cartoonists’ names and links to the complete cartoons embedded in the fragments shown.
Some Telnaes tribute cartoons have already been shown on other TDC posts and some were linked here:
Jack Ohman, Nick Anderson, Darrin Bell, Jason Chatfield, Michael de Adder, Daniel Boris, Clay Jones, Steve Brodner, Keith Knight, Mark Fiore, Chris Britt and Chris Britt, James Mellor, Ruben Bolling, and Barry Blitt.
Apologies to the cartoonists I have missed, I’m sure there are many.
January 8, 2025 update
Here are another 13 that I either missed or came out after the above listings:
Alexandra Bowman, JD Crowe, Natangelo, Kevin Necessary, Rod Emerson, Clay Jones, Tim Dolighan, John Buss, Ratt, David Cohen, Richard Bartholomew, Tim Campbell, and Lectrr.
That puts our list at over five dozen. Let us know who we’ve missed.
Plus: Jason Chatfield, Marc Murphy, Pedro X. Molina, Ruben Bolling, and Adam Zyglis.
This January 9 update has some we had in other posts and include here for completeness’ sake:
Pat Bagley, Tjeerd Royards, Marian Kamensky, James MacLeod, Dennis Goris, and Andy Winters.
And another half dozen brings the list to near 80:
Martin Rowson, Teresa Roberts Logan, Jane Hanstein Cunniffe, Dawny Mock, Mary Lawton, and Zapiro.
A January 10, 2025 Update:
John Auchter, Chris Rywalt, Rafat Alkhatibi, Kachie Yuy, Joe Sutliff, Shorty Robinson, and Cathy Hull. More cartoons via Cartooning For Peace: Nancy Ohanian, Kroll, Arend Van Dam, Vadot, Kichka, Stellina.
And Peter Dunlap-Shohl.
January 13, 2025 and we add another thirteen: Jack Ohman, Tom Bachtell, Omar Abdallet, Liza Donnelly, Marvin Halleraker, Nala Ponnappa, Benjamin Kikkert, Daniel Medina, Angelo Lopez, Luis Enciso (CURRY), Steve Cousineau, Paul Pinderski and Natangelo.
That makes over 100 cartoons and almost that many cartoonists (a few cartoonists doubled up).
