The National Cartoonists Society (NCS) has set their 2024 NCS Conference and Reuben Awards
for August 22-24 (Thursday-Saturday) in San Diego, California.
This year we will co-host some of our conference programming with the awesome team at the Comic Con Museum, located in San Diego’s beautiful Balboa Park. The NCS board used feedback from the member poll to scout several western cities, but the unique opportunity to partner with the Museum, plus a fantastic hotel at reasonable rates ($225/night!), and the city’s overall amenities made San Diego the best option.
An Aside: The Reubens gala happens a month after the 2024 San Diego Comic Con (July 25-28) so there won’t be a hundred thousand comic fans flooding the city (although maybe we can hope for a thousand – or two?).
The NCS has set a very preliminary schedule:
Thursday the 22nd: Connections
Programming will start midday with a Welcome Luncheon followed by Connection and Creativity Workshops at the Comic Con Museum. Transportation will be provided.
Friday the 23rd: Professionals
We kick off the morning with the members’ Business Meeting followed by Professional Development sessions. In the evening we gather for a glamorous Cocktail Reception and then celebrate nominees and award recipients at the prestigious Rueben Awards Banquet.

Saturday the 24th: Community
We’ll wrap our time together with a casual Farewell Brunch at the hotel and then you’re free to explore San Diego on your own or with peers.
