Andrews McMeel Universal, Champion of Business

Once again the Kansas City Business Journal has named Andrews McMeel Universal to its Champions of Business list., an award that honors Kansas City companies that set the gold standard for financial performance, innovation and community involvement.

From the KC Business Journal:

Andrews McMeel Universal hasn’t changed much inits 50 years. Yet it’s also changed tremendously.

The global media company, often identified with comic strips such as Peanuts, The Far Side, or Calvin and Hobbes, does much more than distribute or syndicate. It discovers and nurtures promising creative talent, then envisions multiple paths to roll it out to the world. That specialty has enabled Kansas City-based AMU to thrive, regardless of whether the material is presented on newsprint or a pocket-sized smartphone screen.

While famous as a syndicator and publisher, in print and online, of comic strips AMU has expanded beyond that. The Business Journal notes:

It discovers and nurtures promising creative talent, then envisions multiple paths to roll it out to the world. That specialty has enabled Kansas City-based AMU to thrive, regardless of whether the material is presented on newsprint or a pocket-sized smartphone screen.

One example given is, years before her fame as mocker of President Trump, Andrews McMeel was publishing Sarah Cooper.

Andrews McMeel Universal has acknowledged the Business Journal honor:

Because it is the third time the company has received the honor, AMU will join an elite group of area businesses currently in the program’s Hall of Champions.

“We are thrilled to be recognized for growth and innovation as we celebrate our 50th anniversary this year,” said Susan Johnson, AMU chief people and communications officer. “It is especially gratifying to be named among such esteemed companies within our business community.”

And we will acknowledge, as a matter of full disclosure, that The Daily Cartoonist is a small part of Andrews McMeel Universal.
