The Chicago Reader Quits Comics

Earlier this year the Chicago Reader began publishing a trio of comic strips.

That now comes to an end as the paper announces in its current issue:

Comics serials farewell (for now)
The last installments of Prairie Pothole, Violet Private Eye, and P.L. Dermes
We hope you’ve enjoyed the return of comics serials to the Reader. This week’s installments are the last (for now).

They do hold out hope for comics to return – as sponsored content:

Above are the first comic strips that appeared in the Reader.

Below, the last.

John, a long time self-publisher of mini comix, tells Twitter:

It’s with a bit of heartbreak that I announce the final #PrairiePothole is online now… I’ll be putting together a zine of all the strips, as well as my last unpublished batch, later this year. See you in the funny papers!

Melissa on Twitter:

Bummed to share with you all that this week is the last time that “Violet, Private Eye” will be in the Chicago Reader. I’m working on finding a new home for her, so if you have any ideas, let me know! I will definitely finish this storyline at some point, promise. You’ll kno…

No Twitter message from Mike about this, but here’s his The Nib profile.
