CSotD: Reuben, Reuben
I had planned to link this morning to whoever filed a full report from last night's NCS Awards Dinner before turning in, but all I'm finding is Twitter updates.
So, having flipped the multi-sided coin, I'll send you to Alan Gardner's feed for the full listing plus 144-character commentary.
I'm sure there will be more complete coverage available later and that, over the next few days, we'll see photos from the weekend popping up as well. I'll keep an eye out for ones worth linking to.
Meanwhile, here are the winners most relevant to this blog:
Magazine Gag Cartoons — Matt Diffee
Graphic Novel — Andrew C. Robinson
Comic Book — Sergio Aragones
On-line Short Form — Ryan Pagelow
On-line Long Form — Jeff Smith
Editorial Cartooning — Michael Ramirez
Newspaper Panel — Dave Coverly
Newspaper Strip — Isabella Bannerman
And the Reuben Award for Cartoonist of the Year
AKA, "The Big One,"
Wiley Miller
I'm still not a fan of awards, but, as I've said before, they do help with marketing and that's a good thing in a tough world. And I've known Wiley much longer than I've been keeping this blog, so, on a personal level, I'm glad he won.
But the faintness of praise there is for the award, not the work, for which I have, um, very hale and hearty praise.
I've not only featured Non Sequitur here many times (that link ought to keep you out of trouble for awhile), but I've purchased Wiley's books and calendars as gifts as well.
Here are a number of Non Sequiturs that were good enough to keep, not only before he was a Officially Reubenesque Cartoonist, but back before I had any place to show them to anyone:
(Man, that really got out of hand. Okay, I've pared it down a little.)

(And, last but not least, the one that the Reubens folks prob'ly either didn't see or didn't remember. But it sure make me laff.)
