Skip to commentsSaturday Morning Breakfast Cereal isn't the same type of geeky as xkcd, but it does appeal to people with a little education — more in the realm of philosophy and literature, but you'd better have a little math and science if you're going to visit regularly, because it touches on just about everything. Even when he's being dismissive or silly, you can tell Zach Weiner paid attention in class.
(In fact, I just looked him up: He not only paid attention, but went back for a second helping. Though the same source says he draws one-panel comics exclusively.)
Which he doesn't, and I like the fact that, when he needs one panel to make a gag, he uses one panel. When he needs lots of panels, he uses lots of panels. There is something very appealing to me in the four-panel format, which is like writing sonnets in that the cartoonist is required to adapt timing to the pre-ordained structure and the resulting discipline becomes part of the piece.
But the universe is larger than that. And there's more than one kind of humor. I like this kind, too:
