CSotD: No, no, it’s over here …

A couple of days ago, I issued what turned out to be a false alarm for an upcoming flashback story over in "Heart of the City." Oh well. I still love the feature.
But now, to the rescue of the disappointed comes "Edge City," which is providing a flashback story to help celebrate Hannukah. "Edge City" is to Jews what "Bringing Up Father" was to the Irish: You don't have to be part of the group to enjoy the stories, but there's a little extra nudge in the ribs if you are. Meanwhile, it sends out a quiet, proud message about the crucial difference between a "melting pot" in which we all become the same and a "cultural mosaic" in which each individual tile, by retaining its unique color and shape, becomes part of a greater picture.
Incidentally, for anyone intrigued by this storyline and within easy distance of the Big Apple, you might drop by the Tenement Museum on your way to the more well-publicized destinations. A couple of years ago, I wrote a story about the poor in New York City in the late 1800s, and toured the museum, a tenement in the process of being historically restored. It's not a full-day experience but it's certainly a well-spend afternoon.
