There are a number of cartoons about this topic floating around, but this is the one I liked most. Ed Stein was the editorial cartoonist at the Rocky Mountain News for about 30 years, until it folded, and he is now self-syndicating. His stuff is worth looking at, and that link will also give you his thoughts on why he draws what he draws.

Incidentally, on September 20, United will launch Ed's new strip, "Freshly Squeezed," which is something of a successor to "Denver Square," a strip he did in the Rocky for about 11 years. Good to see a Rocky veteran climbing out of the ditch and getting back to work. (Okay, I'm a softie. The first newspaper to pay me for my writing was the Rocky Mountain News and I was sorry to see it go down.)
