Comic Strip of the Day

CSotD: Classic special: A special guest

The great thing about Cul de Sac is Richard Thompson's ability to remember childhood, not just in terms of what we did, but in terms of how we felt inside.

As for this particular strip (which ran October 14, 2007), I popped it off to a few teachers who fell on the floor over it. And just last weekend, I watched a guy work a roomful of kids really well, until one of them asked a question that was more of an observation, and suddenly, it all began to fall apart … and I sat in the back of the room thinking about Timmy Fretwork and laughing.

I don't know what's more exciting about Cul de Sac — the fact that TImmy Fretwork and Miss Bliss are now engaged, or this week's return of Danders the guinea pig. Of such small things are genius made.

  1. Mister Danders, hands down. (Paws down?)
I kind of took for granted that Timmy Fretwork and Miss Bliss were already an item when he appeared the first time. An experienced, professional kiddie-performer would have managed to get a few songs in before the total breakdown. I figure Timmy needed work, so Miss Bliss got him the gig.
There’s another sign of genius for you … I never give this much thought to the characters in “Garfield”.
