Comic Strip of the Day

Frazz061202a

The only cartoon of which I own the original. When I interviewed Jef Mallett for my newspaper some years back, I mentioned this particular strip as an outstanding example of making demands on readers, which is typical of Frazz. What's wrong with asking the reader to pause and think for a moment? I do have to admit, asking them to catch three cultural references in four panels is asking a lot. And I'm good with that.

A few days after the interview appeared in the paper, the original of this strip appeared in my mail, and we've kept the acquaintance up. In fact, I did a video interview with Jef at his home a few months ago, one of the rare times I've converted an online friendship to the three-dimensional. (One of several Frazz collections, and another of Jef's books, are noted in the sidebar.)

Mike Peterson has posted his "Comic Strip of the Day" column every day since 2010. His opinions are his own, but we welcome comments either agreeing or in opposition.

  1. What, he couldn’t work Freddie Prinze in at all? Lazy Mallett.
