Up nominated for best picture + 4 other Oscars

Planet Pixar reports that Pixar’s “Up” has been nominated for Best Picture – only the second time an animated feature has been such nominated. The Pixar film is pitted against “Avatar”, “The Blind Side,” “District 9,” “An Education,” “The Hurt Locker,” “Inglorious Basterds,” “Precious” and “Up in the Air.” “Up” has also been nominated for Best Animated Feature, Best Writing (Original Screenplay), Best Sound Mixing, and Best Music (Original Score).

The Academy Awards will air March 7th, 2010.

  1. When my friends and I walked out of the theater after seeing “Up” this past summer, I said, “There’s more imagination in five minutes of that movie than in the complete running time of most movies this year.”

I don’t know whether that means it’ll win Best Picture—aw heck, I’ll admit it: I seriously doubt it. But I’d like to live in the alternative reality where it does.

  2. Up is my favorite movie. The sequence showing Carl and Ellieâ??s life at the beginning was the most touching moment Iâ??ve ever seen in a movie. Except for certain moments in â??Grave of the Firefliesâ? which were overly depressing, though.

Of course it wonâ??t have a chance of winning â??Best pictureâ?, although it should. But only to be nominated is a major feat for an animated movie.

  3. Won’t get Best Picture. Precious is too much the favorite for that. Everbody in the entertainment and art industry has been kicked around for being different, so they identify with the downtrodden. Glad somebody does. I would like to see The Blind Side win Best Picture or At least a nod for Sandra Bullock.
