Universal Press posts ‘Maintaining’ samples
Back in October I told you about a new feature that was to debut in January from Universal Press. I noticed that they’ve posted samples of Maintaining on their web site. Maintaining is by Nate Creekmore who has been working on the feature under a development deal since 2004. He won the Charles M. Schulz award for best college cartoonist in 2003 and 2004.
From Universal’s web site:
“Maintaining” was originally published in The Babbler, Creekmore’s college newspaper at Lipscomb University in Nashville where he earned a B.A. in graphic design. The strip follows Marcus, a biracial high school student, whose every-day life experience is relevant, reflective and slightly absurd. The comic strip looks at the oddities of life through Marcus’ eyes.

According to Nate Creekmore’s website, the strip will debut in newspapers on May.
I think when Nate said it “will launch in January,” he meant that Universal sent promotional materials to newspaper editors on that month.
Nontheless, the strip seems promosing, and I recently wrote to my newspaper’s editor urging them to at least check the strip out. (I did the same with “Cafe con Leche”)
