Awards Editorial cartooning Pulitzer Prize

Prize Update – Two-Bulls, Telnaes, and Zapiro

Two Prize – Herblock and Pulitzer – stories.

Marty Two-Bulls

Mike Rhode at Comics DC brings a few exclusive pictures of the Herblock Prize awards ceremony.

At the moment it is the only news I found about the 2025 presentation, which featured winner Marty Two Bulls, Sr. with a video acceptance and Lalo Alcaraz in discussion with lecturer Dolores Huerta.

But it did happen, Clay Jones confirms Mike’s notice and adds some anecdotes and many more pictures:

… had a great time at last night’s Herblock Awards presentation at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. The winner of this year’s Herblock Prize is Marty Two Bulls Sr., and the lecturer was Deloras Huerta. Marty had to do something else and was represented by his son, Marty Two Bulls Jr., who is a very lovely guy, and I had a nice time talking to him (along with Marty’s brother and his wife).

Ann Telnaes has won her second Pulitzer Prize. The freelance political cartoonist was profiled in Yesterday’s Papers on January 4 of this year when she resigned as the Washington Post‘s editorial cartoonist. Her citation this year read: “For delivering piercing commentary on powerful people and institutions with deftness, creativity—and a fearlessness that led to her departure from the news organization after 17 years.”

Pulitzer announces Ann Telnaes 2025 Prize winner

At Yesterday’s Papers political and editorial cartoon historian – “Editorial Cartoons (traditionally on broad subjects) vs Political Cartoons (obviously addressing partisan issues)” – Rick Marschall discusses Ann Telnaes‘ winning the 2025 Pulitzer Prize (“the left-wing cartoonist has earned a spot in the first rank of Trump Derangement Syndrome commentators”) and the changes to the Pultizer cartoon category (“In 2022, in a controversial and somewhat bizarre move, the Editorial Cartooning prize was renamed ‘Illustrated Reporting and Commentary'”).
