The WaPo Opinion Page 3 Days Before the Midterms

The Saturday before the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November – 3 days before a major election that will decide the course America will take for the foreseeable future and the major newspaper in the nation’s capitol features fluff for its readers.

The Washington Post opinion page – Oct. 30, 2026 via Matt Wuerker

On the right is an item by Washington Post business columnist Megan McCardle about Halloween candy and foreign affairs columnist Fareed Zakaria on polls and Americans looking for a center.

On the left is an Edith Prichett Hollywood society comic running down the length of the page (or here).

As Matt Wuerker notes:

“The Washington Post’s editorial page is an embarrassment. The weekend before midterm elections this is the op-ed page. They could have run 5 or 6 real political cartoons in the space they gave to an insipid cartoon about celebrity entourages.”

This is The Washington Post today as run by owner Jeff Bezos, Executive Editor Matt Murray, and Interim Opinion Editor Mark Lasswell.

My local paper (Star Tribune) remains, officially ‘neutral’.
