Mike led off today’s CSotD with Red and Rover and so do I, but for a different reason. I was beginning to worry about Basset and the strip after it had been in daily rerun status for the past four weeks – two weeks being the normal vacation time. But today saw Basset return to his labor of love.
Though it looks like we’ll get Sunday reruns for the month of September.
Speaking of returns…
After a nearly 4 month absence Burritt and Frog Applause have returned. Last seen when GoComics made changes I thought she had just given up on the website but it turns out she had some medical issues that have now been dealt with, hopefully for good. Her Frog Blog has also returned.
But I won’t be ignoring the holiday completely, having been a union man for 90% of my adult working life. I appreciate Cash’s recognition of the union efforts to improve the living conditions of the working man and woman. And the tribute to Ricardo Levins Morales’ poster.
Cash wasn’t the only one saluting a previous artist today.
As the linked Picasso site says Guernica was “an immediate reaction to the Nazi’s devastating casual bombing practice on the Basque town of Guernica.” I don’t know Whamond’s lead time on Reality Check but since Whamond’s other day job is being an editorial cartoonist one has to wonder if this is his reaction to the U.S. bombing of an Iranian elementary girls’ school earlier this year.
The GoComics gremlin attacked The Born Loser today. Today being a holiday Sansom doesn’t know when the black lines will be added so he posted a b&w version on The Born Loser Facebook page. For those without Facebook:

Today’s WuMo brings to mind that the National Cartoonists Society recently distributed via their mailing list (scroll down the page here) a wide-screen photo of the cartoonists at their 80th annual Reuben Awards banquet.
Cartoonists are sharing the picture and seeing if we can find them. Jim Keefe makes it easy:
While Dee Fish on Facebook has some fun but makes it harder, that WuMo cartoon is a clue.
Staying with Facebook but moving to a different Dee, this one being Parson. For the last couple years the Sunday Rosebuds has been in third-page size or quarter page size with the title panel, but it was one of the few comic strips Comics Kingdom wasn’t including the Sunday title panel, “was” being the operative word. Two Sunday’s ago (Aug. 30, 2026) the title panels began appearing (thank you CK). $upr Dee recently post the 8 title panels prior to the Aug. 30th strip on his Facebook account.
Wallace the Brave has a wonderful lazy pantomime strip for Labor Day. Yesterday’s comic strip was also pantomime but not so lazy.
