Newspaper editorial cartoonist and illustrator George Camden has passed away.

From the obituary:

He graduated from Cincinnati Bible College and spent many years serving churches throughout several Midwestern states. His faith was an important part of his life and something he shared with those around him.

George was a talented artist and craftsman. For many years, he owned and operated his own sign company, where he put his artistic abilities and creativity to work.

He also spent many years working for the Port Huron Times Herald in Port Huron, Michigan, where he worked as a typesetter and cartoonist. His artistic talent, creativity, and sense of humor were reflected in his work and became part of the newspaper and the community he served.

George Camden served as a minister for The Port Huron Church of Christ from 1965 to 1973.

Early 1974 saw Camden as part of The Port Huron Times Herald composition staff as a typesetter.

By 1978 Camden was staff artist for The Port Huron Times Herald creating weekly “As We See It…” cartoons that reflected the paper’s Sunday editorial and illustrating articles for the newspaper.

Soon Camden’s cartoons were stand-alone editorials as seen below from 1979.

Camden stayed with the paper until at least March 1981.
