The San Francisco Comic Art Museum is closing its doors

The Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco will be closing after this weekend:

For nearly 42 years, our Board, staff, artists, members, donors and visitors have championed cartoon art and helped create a supportive environment for its creation and appreciation.

For now, we will be packing up, taking time to regroup and determining what the next chapter of the Cartoon Art Museum should be.

Unknown if this is fallout from the late June 2026 news about the museum’s former curator.

Pat Oliphant Ambushes President Trump from the Grave

President Trump’s press secretary Karoline Leavitt was photgraphed posing with The New York Times obituary for editorial cartoonist facing toward the camera, it included a cartoon of Trump as a Nazi-like character.

From Aman Sharma at Reality Tea:

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was seen holding a newspaper that featured Trump’s political cartoon by Pat Oliphant.

The viral photos were taken during the photoshoot for the Independent Women’s Forum, according to Ok! Magazine.

The cartoon created by the legendary cartoonist portrayed Trump as “Herr Trump.” The satirical artwork also featured a small pig exclaiming, “Heil Trump!” Trump was seen with a German dictator’s symbol on his bicep.

Peppa Pig Eats Wolfoo in Court

The owners of Peppa Pig have legally stopped the Wolfoo owners to erase the latter.

From Dan McDonald at GB News:

The owners of Peppa Pig have secured a major legal victory against a Vietnamese firm behind a cartoon character accused of being an “imposter”.

Mr Justice Smith, sitting at the High Court, determined this week that SConnect, the firm responsible for the character “Wolfoo”, had unlawfully taken bits of sound from Peppa Pig episodes in what he described as a “prolific” and “long-standing” fashion.

The judge ordered that every video featuring Wolfoo must be removed by 4pm on Monday.

China Daily

From Pia Lee-Brago at The Philippine Star:

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has condemned state-run China Daily’s release of “dehumanizing” and “racist” videos and editorial cartoons depicting Filipinos as monkeys in criticizing the 2016 South China Sea Arbitral Award [link added].

Manila demanded that the video posted on China Daily’s Facebook account on July 10 be taken down. China Daily released the video two days before the 10th anniversary of the South China Sea ruling.

The video features a monkey dressed in Filipino attire – a barong Tagalog and a salakot – being directed by arms representing the United States and Japan on what to say.
