The 2026 Society of Illustrators Hall of Fame Honorees

Back in May the Society of Illustrators (SoI) posted the names of the inductees for their 2026 Hall of Fame inductees on Instagram. Now, two months later, the honorees have gotten their names on the SoI website.

The most famous of the new Hall of Famers would be John Tenniel, while Jackie Ormes is the sole comic strip creator. Illustrators Joe Ciardiello, Miguel Covarrubias, and Maira Kalman round out the Class of 2026.

Scrolling past this year’s inductees is a list of the hundreds of the Society’s previous Hall of Fame illustrators, that list includes scores of comic strip and comic book creators, editorial and magazine cartoonists, and other artists well-known to The Daily Cartoonist readers.

  1. How great to see this important announcement in The Daily Cartoonist! Especially as today, August 1, is the birthday of Jackie Ormes, one of the honorees. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA, in 1911 and raised in nearby Monongahela before moving on to Salem, OH, and Chicago. It’s very exciting–and fitting–that she and her work should be remembered with this honor from the Society of Illustrators.

  2. Miguel Covarrubias should have been inducted when the awards first came out.
