Graphic Medicine Award Winners Announced

This year’s 2026 Graphic Medicine Awards have been announced. The awards were presented during the Graphic Medicine International Collective annual conference in Baltimore. Below are the three categories and the winner. In addition to the award, winners took home a $600 cash prize.
Educational category
The winner for the best Educational comic went to “It’s A Journey” by Asiel & Dr. M. Giacomozzi.
The judges said the book “is a fascinating and informative work about endometriosis across gender diversity, and reproductive choices in queer-friendly clinical practice. The judges particularly liked the engaging, yet subtle, colour schemes and the use of a story thread throughout the work.”
Short Form Comic
The winner for the best Short Form comic went to Shawn Forde for his comic What Have We Lost?
Judges remarks for Shawn’s comic: “Shawn Forde demonstrates an excellent use of the comics language in this moving short form work. The judges particularly appreciated the repeating motif of dropping, or falling, or letting go.”
Long Form Comic
The winner for the best Long Form comic went to Keezy Young for Hello Sunshine.
The judges were “blown away by the artwork and the sophistication of the storytelling which blurs the lines between mental illness and the supernatural. With best short form work last year, Keezy Young is obviously on a roll.”
