Comics Museum Curator and Historian Accused of Taping Party Guests in Bathroom

The Berkeley Scanner is reporting that former museum curator and comics historian Andrew Farago was arrested.

A prominent member of San Francisco’s cartoon community was arrested earlier this month after recording birthday party guests, adults and children, using the bathroom at his Berkeley home, according to court papers.

Andrew Farago is a pop culture writer and historian, in addition to serving as curator for San Francisco’s Cartoon Art Museum, according to his LinkedIn page and the museum website.

The allegations date back to May 23 when Farago co-hosted a birthday party at his home in South Berkeley, according to court papers.

About the time of his arrest Farago resigned from the museum. His name is no longer noted at their website.

A woman at the birthday party discovered the hidden cell phone and confronted Farago who admitted to the crime.

Farago had been associated with the museum for 25 years and has written about comics and animation for many magazines.

  1. Ethical media standards in Germany prohibit publishing the accused person’s full name before he (or she) is officially convicted in court. Profitability standards in America prohibit the adoption of such ethical standards.

  2. I have no particular insight into this person’s mind, but we live in a world of temptation. The smartphone is one of the worst technologies ever invented. It has destroyed many lives. And for what? What is the value of it? We are presently forcing websites to add age verification. Why? Because young people make endless streams of self-porn–child pornography–using their smartphones and distribute it for free over the internet. By young people, I mean even prepubescent children. 90% of CP is made by young people.

    I will not judge such activity, but the source of that “problem” is the smartphone itself, not the social media site. We are being subject to ever more invasive surveillance, just so everyone can have a smartphone camera in their pocket at all times. Google is now developing “audio memory” features for Pixel phones. Every ambient conversation will be recorded, with notes taken. The smart phone is making society completely insane.

    Likewise this man, after decades of being subjected to the temptations of the smartphone, finally gave in to an impulse. It probably involved all of 30 seconds of thought. A what if? Well, now he knows. If he didn’t have the smartphone, he never would have been able to entertain the what if. But slaves love their smartphones. They want nothing but their smartphone.
