Shrimp & Grits by Andy Marlette 2021 – 2026

The Sunday Shrimp & Grits comic strip by Andy Marlette has been in rerun status for all of May 2026 so far. The dailies have been in reruns since November 2023. Is it too early to call?

Shrimp & Grits debuted from Creators syndicate daily and Sunday on May 31, 2021.

The strip appeared at the Creators website and on the Arcamax comics site, For reasons unexplained Shrimp & Grits never made the journey to the GoComics website.

Andy Marlette stopped creating new dailies for the comic with the November 25, 2023 issue.

The Sunday edition continued with new material while the dailies went into rerun status on November 27, 2023.

In February of 2026 an omen of things to come happened when the Sunday page went rerun for three weeks. Since May 3, 2026 the Sunday strips have been reruns.

  1. That archive of Andy Marlette’s political cartoons is an amazing summary of the criminality that has pervaded the White House for the past 18 months (I couldn’t read any farther back than that, it was just too depressing). Wikipedia doesn’t have an article for him, but the article on Doug Marlette mentions that Andy was Doug’s nephew, and that “…as of Sept 2022, he no longer worked at the News Journal…” (in Pensacola, Florida). I have not been able to find any more “recent” information about him, except for one (very) minor correction: both Creators and Arcamax have one additional political cartoon, dated 25-March-2026.

  2. Creators.com has been doing rerun abuse on many comic strips – Rugrats, Agnes, Scary Gary, One Big Happy, Archie, and now Shrimp and Grits.

Maybe Creators should sell many of the still published fresh strips – B.C., Wizard of Id, Dogs of C Kennel, Heathcliff, Daddy’s Home, Speed Bump, Free Range – to King Features or Counterpoint.
