The Lake County Journal/Shaw Local touted their cartoonist Tom Beck sweeping the recent 2025 Northern Illinois Newspaper Association Awards. show (or here):
Lake County Journal cartoonist Tom Beck recently swept the Best Use of Humor category at the 2025 Northern Illinois Newspaper Association Awards.
Beck has placed in this category in years past, but this is the first time he has swept the category.
Taking first place was his cartoon titled “Biden’s Pardons.” The judges commented that “I laughed reflexively. That’s how you know it’s good.”
In second place was his cartoon titled “Summer IL-lympics 2024.”
In third place was Beck’s cartoon titled “Bob Uecker Eulogy.”
Tom Beck has been cartooning since 1992. From his LinkedIn page:
I began political cartooning in college for the Western Illinois Courier where my cartoons were syndicated with the Illinois College Press Association. I worked for Freeport IL Journal-Standard where my cartoons were syndicated with the Copley News Service. After a move to the suburbs of Chicago, I worked for Lakeland Newspapers and I am currently with the Lake County Journal.
