A perfect time to run into a simple, small, non-cosmic bit of humor from Hilary Price at Rhymes with Orange.I’m sick of issues and need a bit of whimsy. The mission of this blog includes the idea that all good cartoons invoke truth, but, thank goodness, some truths are weightier than others. As are some crates. When […]
(Please, please click on the pic for the larger version)The Gutters is primarily an insider send-up of the comic book industry, with guest artists from within the business, which basically means it has great art but that, being a comic strip person rather than a comic book person, I don’t get the references most days.I got this […]
Arctic Circle sometimes riffs on snow-and-ice jokes and sometimes features non-arctic humor. Sometimes it’s silly and sometimes it’s got some bite. Which is to say, it’s a mix of igloo jokes and humor based on the very real threat of global warming. With occasional forays to the coffee bar. What I like about it is that […]
Dave Kellett with one of the least-pressing issues of our time: What to name the router. And yet, not only is he right, but he is, as so often is the case, funny. You have to name the router. There is no reason the name has to be clever. All that is required is that, when you log […]
Poor Fox News.First, they lost the election, to the chagrin of their staff and in particular, to the raging, delusional disbelief of Karl Rove, which moment, by the way, was funnier than anything you’re going to see here. And which resulted in the brass sending down instructions to tell Karl, as well as swami Dick […]
As a live-alone adult, let me say that Hilary Price has it all wrong in today’s Rhymes with Orange.Bills? Dishes? Laundry? No way those are keeping me from my comfy bed. I wouldn’t mind if something constructive were actually happening in that space between, “Oh, it’s a little early yet,” and “Dear god, how did […]
Fresh from her engagement at the fabulous Kenosha Festival of Cartooning, Hilary Price gives us a vision of Pooh that backs up the basic pun with a bit of appropriate travesty.I love Rhymes with Orange because it’s not just funny but witty, which is not the same thing. The Pooh/Poe thing works, sure, and “Eeyore” […]
The mother’s smile absolutely makes it in today’s Rhymes With Orange.Twenty years later, she remains oblivious to the horrors she inflicted on her poor child. No, wait: The little inset of the school picture makes it. Gaah!Wait, no, it’s the fact that the now-adult kid is still obsessing over it all. This is a very funny cartoon […]
To say it again, timing is everything in comedy, and when the first of these Rhymes With Orange comics appeared last month, it put me on the floor but it also happened to coincide with the verdict in the Jerry Sandusky trial, which demanded more urgent cartoon commentary. So I filed it away because I wanted […]
I love a good barroom joke, and I love a good barroom-pickup joke even more. And I love dogs, so today’s The Other Coast was right down the ol’ pipeline for me.There’s some inaccuracy in this, if you can imagine a cartoonist veering from 100 percent accuracy simply to get a laff. Microchips give you a […]
Rhymes With Orange is in contention for CSOTD so often that I’m kind of disappointed today was such a landslide. This is a funny, insightful and affectionate little salute to fathers and I wish it had been a tougher choice, because it wouldn’t have changed the outcome.Father’s Day cartoons, by and large, are treated like an […]
One of the recurring gags in the underestimated surrealist comedy, “Green Acres,” was that, just as an apparent need arose, hustler and conman Mr. Haney would appear on the doorstep with a solution. As noted in today’s The Brilliant Mind of Edison Lee, Mr. Haney’s truck has gone high tech, thanks to Google and our willingness […]
When I first looked at today’s Rhymes with Orange, I thought it was going to be a riff on excessive government spending, tied in to the Secret Service scandal (such as it is) and the GSA scandal (which I’m tired of). There actually are secret government cafeterias, and the food there is reportedly rather above the […]
Today’s Rhymes With Orange is sort of a bathetic response to yesterday’s diatribe on the importance of alone-time. (I thought I was making up that word, but I looked it up and it actually exists. Well, good. It ought to.)Hilary Price celebrates the eccentricities of the inner life better than anybody in the business, and […]
Funny you should mention it, Hilary. As a sort of a niche blog just entering its third year, I don’t expect huge numbers, though I’d love to get up into four figures a day, simply because there are revenue potentials when you hit a certain level of readership. You all wouldn’t mind seeing a picture of a […]
