A study of children’s cartoons find that characters over the age of 55 are portrayed negatively 38% of the time according to a Brigham Young University study which analyzed 45 hours of Saturday morning and after-school programming.

Jim Unger’s Herman to become Canadian animated series
Teletoon, Canada’s first and only 24 hour cartoon network has entered into an agreement to create an animated series based on Bob Unger’s Herman comic strip that is syndicated by United Media. The article did not specify a timeline.
New Boondocks episodes delayed until 2007
According to this report on Red Orbit, new episodes of Aaron McGruder’s Boondocks television show are being delayed until March 2007. The Cartoon Network has asked for five more episodes.
David Silverman to be on the Tonight Show – (UPDATED)
Rick Stromoski writes in to alert readers that this year’s Reuben division winner for TV Animation, David Silverman, will be on Jay Leno’s Tonight Show tonight (June 23rd) to play his “Flaming Tuba” during a segment called “Don’t Try This At Home.”Check your local listings for time and channel.
Oregon Public Television wants a weekly show called ‘Party Toons’
According to E&P, a weekly television show called “Party Toons” is being planned for Oregon Public Television – should the funding be secured…. A pilot episode has already been created and features Steve Sack, editorial cartoonist for the Minneapolis Star Tribune, and Steve Breen, of the San Diego Union Tribune.
Warner Home Video gets rights to classic Popeye library
From a story out of Reuters comes news that Warner Home Video has negotiated a deal with Hearst Entertainment and King Features for worldwide distribution rights to all of Popeye’s theatrical shorts and television cartoons…. Warner also has licensed the exclusive rights to 220 Popeye made-for-TV animated shorts produced from 1960-62, 65 episodes of “The Continuing Adventures of Popeye,” produced from 1978-81 (and consisting of 161 animated shorts) and 26 “Popeye & Son” shorts produced in 1987.The Popeye theatrical slate includes 120 black-and-white shorts (106 of them produced by Fleischer Studios, the other 14 by Famous Studios) and 111 Technicolor cartoons (three produced by Fleischer Studios and 108 produced by Famous Studios).Warner will now have to begin preservation and restoration.
Stan Lee getting into reality TV; looking for a superhero
will feature men and women competing for the title of “Superhero” and to be the star of a new comic book according to the San Jose Mercury News. The show will premiere on the Sci-fi channel on July 26.Those that don’t make it will be ordered to “Turn in your spandex!”
Matt Groening interviewed about upcoming Futurama and Simpson movies
Matt Groening was recently interviewed by AV Club about some of the projects he’s working on. While still cranking out “Life in Hell,” he’s also working on the upcoming Simpson feature film, and four Futurama DVD feature films.
