Marc Thill at the Luxembourg Times celebrates the artist turning 105:

Over the years, graphic designer, illustrator, newspaper designer and poet Pe‘l Schlechter, who turned 105 on Monday, has had a hand at everything. His portfolio ranges from posters and illustrations, comic strips and brochures, to stamps, logos, badges and medals, as well as book covers, record sleeves, diplomas, bookmarks and business stationery, and not least shop fittings, theatre sets and exhibition stands …

Equally at home with literature and poetry as he is with satire and humour, Schlechter was a pioneer of the Luxembourg graphic design scene.

His poster art for the Société des Foires Internationales de Luxembourg – now known as Luxexpo – became instantly iconic. They were expressionist, colourful and cheerful images that stuck in the memory.

Above are a few images by way of Design Friends.

Bea Kneip at RTL Today also celebrates the birthday:

Considered one of the pioneers of comic art in Luxembourg, Pe’l Schlechter is celebrating his 105th birthday.

On April 20, 1921, Pe’l Schlechter was born as the youngest son of the author Demy Schlechter into a family of artists in Limpertsberg.

For decades, Schlechter worked as a graphic designer, creating posters for the National Lottery and the fair. On 9 February, Schlechter held a special reading at the Konviktsgaart care home in Luxembourg City, where he read from his book Fable and gave an interview to RTL.

A new name, a decade and a half late to our Senior Strippers Club.
