New Organizer selected for Angoulême International Comics Festival
Skip to commentsThe Association for the Development of Comics in Angoulême (ADBDA) has announced it has selected the Morgane group as their new festival organizer for the Angoulême International Comics Festival. The Morgane group will replace the controversial 9eArt+ whose mismanagement resulted in the boycott and cancellation of the festival due to the protests of hundreds of cartoonists and authors.
In a statement the mediation group ADBDA who made the selection said Morgane group “meets the expectations of the entire sector in terms of artistic standards and aesthetic diversity and confirms the central role of authors.”

The Morgane group project leads are Marie Parisot and Céline Bagot. Marie has had a long career in French comic publishing. She was the marketing and commercial director at French comic book publisher Dargaud and COO–General Director of Europe at Les Humanoïdes Associés a French publisher and distributor of comics and graphic novels. Céline is the founder and president of the POP WOMEN FESTIVAL in Reims. She also has direct experience with the Angoulême festival as the former director of communications for 9eArt+.

No announcement was made about the 2027 edition which would normally be held in January. Usually organizers work more than a year in advance for each festival. Legally 9eArt+ still holds the contract for the 2027 edition and is in litigation over their termination claiming that selecting a new organizer is “parasitism and unfair competition.” That case will be heard next month.
Correction: Store and headline were updated to correct the name of the organization (ADBDA) that made the selection.
