Ink Blotters

Calendars are being offered for 2026, but we’re going back to 1946/47 with the Internet Archive and some Bull of the Woods ink blotters by J. R. Williams of Out Our Way fame courtesy of Mike Rhode.

Those would have been perfect for your workshop. Also Mike presents a set of undated cartoon ink blotters featuring golfers by Divot Diggers cartoonist Vic Forsythe (of Joe Jinks fame) for your man cave.

Elsewhere another Mike, this one is cartoonist Lynch, gifts us with a cover gallery of Buck Rogers Big Little Books and Better Little Books featuring art by Dick Calkins and maybe Russell Keaton and Rick Yager.

Hey Look

From 1946 to 1949 Harvey Kurtzman created about one Hey Look! comic strip/page for Stan Lee’s Timely (now Marvel) comic books. Evan Lewis seems to be determined to post all those pages in their original color.

  1. Thanks for ID’ing the cartoonist! You’re the only person who has. I’ll modify various sites to reflect that.

  2. Great stuff! I really appreciate all the historical archiving from folks who just love comics. I only hope it doesn’t all disappear someday in the Land of Forgotten Websites.

Oh, to have that copy of Actions Comics…

I asked my wife, “Do you mind if I bid on a comic book?”

    “Of course not.”

    1. I want to color in the first page of Chuck Dixon and send it in for my prize.

  3. Holy cow…

“Unfortunately for collectors, the other side of this [Chuck Dawson] page [to color and send in] was the last page of the Superman story.”
