CSotD: I Love To Hear The Story

Cragn121219
There are all sorts of people out there doing comic riffs on Christmas standards. Some are pretty funny, some are pretty, well … familiar.

To impress me, though, you've got to be demented, and that's where our girl Agnes steps in, with a Christmas story that is destined to be a classic. Or maybe not. But I think the tale of poor Windella deserves a spot in the canon, or at least, in the same canon that includes all those claymation Christmas specials that make Gen-Xers all squishy this time of year.

This story just gets more heart-rendering with every episode. Here, start at the beginning.

The other approach to storytelling that I really like is the "Wait a minute …"  – classically enshrined in the scene in "Raiders" with the amazing sword-wielding guy — in which a much simpler path to the goal is taken. And well-executed in today's XKCD (which is worth visiting in person today for the mouse-over gag):

And let me just add that the artwork on the ruby slippers is superb.

However, not to be a total Grinch about it all, I don't know if Francesco Marciuliano is a very young Boomer or a very old Gen-Xer, but he recently wrote an appreciation on his usually wise-ass website, Medium Large, explaining the appeal of "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol."

It's very much worth visiting, just as Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol is worth watching. Which you can, on Netflix.  Or, Ces tells us, on NBC this coming Saturday. Here's a little preview:

  1. These are cute comics but some of them are really hitting close to the situations that people are facing this Christmas. I think about the people who have lost their homes in the recent Hurricane.
Some of those people still have no place to live, they have no clothes, just like Windella. Sometimes laughter is the best day to deal with things like that. We laugh and get over the stress so we can focus on solving our problems.
