This week's arc at the Piranha Club:

Here's the breakdown –

Deflocked (which often has fairly long arcs) started the ice cream truck sequence on July 16:

… but the notion of an ice-cream-truck-ambulance-crossover only came up today.

Meanwhile, Piranha Club, which tends to have short arcs of a week or sometimes two, didn't get into the idea of using an ice cream truck as an ambulance until July 30 …

Given deadlines, there's no real chance of intentional or unintentional plagiarism here. This appears to have been a very bizarre incidence of synchronicity.

If I hear from either cartoonist, I'll provide an update. (See below) Meanwhile, I'm sure it's proof of something or other. Probably something along these lines:

I wish I could say Mr. Grace and I previously discussed this brilliant confluence of ideas at the Reubens this year. Sadly, I never made it to that part of Las Vegas that weekend (according to the police report).

I actually wrote this series back in March/April, when the blue irises were really in bloom outside my window. It made me think of how life is so unpredictable. And how much I like the cool feel of the yellow wallpaper as I rub up against it in my tiny keeping room. Ice cream trucks have a natural affinity to the ambulance, when you consider how both produce sounds that make you want to tear your ears off during their approach.
