CSotD: When nerds collide

  Culdesac
Cul de Sac takes on a new direction of sorts, putting Petey instead of Alice at the center of a story arc. Richard Thompson has created such a full and lively cast of classmates around Alice that Petey's social life can kind of sneak up on you. I think it's kind of sneaking up on him, in fact, because it largely consists of people he meets going to and from school, and, up until now, has largely consisted of people he attempts to avoid.

Well, there's no avoiding this: His beloved dioramas must not be challenged by the posters of some other person, even when that other person is someone who might possibly be an actual friend. And it's hard to have a difference of opinion when your first instinct is to run away and avoid social entanglements completely.

Richard often comments on his strips over at his own blog, and I'll be interested to see what he's got to say about this turn of events, because it isn't as if he simply grabbed hold of Petey and forced him into a more central role with no setup, and he has commented about Petey's growing social circle in the past.

Meanwhile, there is nothing so dismal as being enemies forever at this age. Poor Petey.

  1. This is such a great strip! It makes me feel along with the characters: happy, sad, worried, perplexed…Richard Thompson covers it all. And the art that carries it along is above and beyond.
