Comic Strip of the Day

CSotD: Any meal you can walk away from was a good meal

Piranha
I like it when a cartoonist reads my mind, and this New Year's, I was suddenly struck by the number of things it's supposed to be good luck to eat at the first of the year.

And today, Bud Grace steps in with a "Piranha Club" that takes up that ball and runs with it. This probably means that he is a whole year ahead of me and thought of this last January, then filed it away until the moment came around again. Or he's only a few months ahead of me and, for some reason, thought of this in September, which seems a bit strange. Having read the strip for several years, I'm willing to believe either theory.

In any case, it's interesting that a strip which relies heavily on a series of familiar jokes that work because of impeccable timing and funny art is the one that, while everyone else is recycling strips about the futility of New Year's Resolutions, comes up with a new holiday gag.

And one that is perfectly set up for the familiar scene of hapless Sid about to become, once more, the victim of Effie's cookery.
