Association of Political Artists Announcement

Last month we learned that the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists (AAEC) was rejiggering its organization and would align themselves with the Society of Illustrators (SI) as an adjunct federation and rename the new guild the Association of Political Artists (APA).

Today incoming President of the Association of Political Artists Steve Brodner made an announcement:

Steve Brodner

Wrote Brodner:

“This week the Society of Illustrators announced a new affiliation with the AAEC. The American Association of Editorial Cartoonists [sic] will now be known as the APA, the Association of Political Artists, an organization devoted to artists’ rights, the First Amendment, and a future for art made by humans.

“I was honored to be present at the announcement at the SI on a cartooning panel with APA members Ann Telnaes and Pedro Molina when our web sign-in url appeared on the screen.

“Seen floating [in the above illustration with Brodner, Telnaes, and Molina] are among the many award-winners in this group: Lalo Alcaraz, Marc Murphy (current pres), Jack Ohman (spiritual leadr), and Adam Zyglis.

“Our first big event will be held in 2027 at the Society (but we will begin making good trouble shortly).

Brodner adds:

“This new group has been in the works for the better part of the year. It arrives at a time when we have been under threat as never before: from the Magamob, Techbros, academia and media industrial complex (okay, yeah, it’s all one thing!)

“The group is so new that you can only leave your email if you want to join. But please do. We’ll get back to you very soon.”
