New Look For Baldo and Carmen

Readers of the Baldo comic strip are used to the occasional guest artists taking on the Sunday page, and less frequently helping out on a week of the dailies. Later this month Baldo creators Hector D. Cantú and Carlos Castellanos invite cartoonist Richard Dominguez to take on the art chores as a unique story takes place.
As Cantú tells The Daily Cartoonist:
“Richard Dominguez, creator of the Gato Negro independent comic, is collaborating with us for a special, timely story that focuses on Tia Carmen and a relatively new character, her niece Xiomara.”
“It uses a more realistic style of art, the ‘dramatic serial’ style of strips like Judge Parker or Brenda Starr. Carlos and I have done these dramatic strips before and they’re always popular with readers. The first strip of the story appears Oct. 20.”
The new character Xiomara was introduced to readers this past Tuesday and will take center stage with Tia Carmen in the daily strips running from Oct. 20 to October 29 with Dominguez drawing all 9 strips.
