The past weekend saw the Association of Canadian Cartoonists (ACC) gather on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls for their 2026 convention which this year they called a “popup mini congress.”
So far there has been little news that has come from the conference.
One bit of news is who won the dual Townsend Awards (The Townsies) – one for the best Anglophone cartoon and one for the best Francophone cartoon – Canadian cartoonist Guy Badeaux (Bado) won for French language and New Zealander Rod Emmerson won the English language Townsie.
The only news to be found is a bit on social media.
Rod Emmerson’s Facebook page is where his images come, while Michael de Adder also on Facebook and in attendance has some photos from the assembly including the group photo below which shows a few U.S. political cartoonists crossed the border and crashed the party.
One of those invaders from the south was Clay Jones who traveled there to present Graeme MacKay with his Rex Babin Award he was honored with from the recent Association of American Editorial Cartoonists convention. While there ACC president Wes Tyrell (is that a lifetime appointment?) presented Jones with an Honorary Canuck Award.
John Auchter also has some photos including one (above) of the “Americans” cartoonists segregated.
With a Canadian getting a United States award and a New Zealander getting a Canadian award it would only be fair for an American to receive an Australian Stanley or Walkley awards later this year.
