Cartoonist and novelist Charles Johnson joins cartoonist and novelist David Horsey Thursday evening as they discuss their award-winning creative careers.

Derf Backderf begins his book tour this Thursday at the Politics and Prose bookstore in Washington, D.C.
Backderf will then hop in his private jet up to the SPX.

The 2026 Small Press Expo happens this weekend in Rockland Maryland. The Ignatz Awards occur on the 13th. Guests include John Backderf, Carol Tyler, Julia Wertz, Kim Deitch, Peter Bagge, Noah Van Sciver, more. There is a labor action going on at the moment also on the SPX Instagram account.
A special screening of Women Laughing will be followed by a discussion with panelists Meg Lemke, Liza Donnelly, Rani Som, Sofia Warren, Hilary Campbell.

More events with SPX guests getting down to Washington, D.C. during this coming weekend.

The Association of American Editorial Cartoonists Convention is next weekend in Sacramento California. Awards night is Saturday the 19th.

Peanuts presents Snoopy in Style NYC, “a multifaceted exhibition celebrating Charles M. Schulz’ comic strip through the lens of fashion, creativity, and culture,” runs for most of September 2026 (2nd – 26th).


The Anderson (Indiana) Museum of Art is hosting The Funny Pages exhibit during the month of October. Featuring Anderson’s own Deon ($upr Dee) Parson, cartoonist of the wonderful Rosebuds comic strip.

Not real far from Anderson IN is Columbus OH where Chris Ware will be appearing at The Billy Ireland for “a live drawing event during which he will work on a page from one of his stories while idly discussing the tools of the trade, his overwrought process, and warning otherwise perfectly well-adjusted civilians about the life-chewing effects of pursuing a career in the cartooning arts.”
Derf Backderf returns to Ohio State later this month on Sept. 23, 2026.
