Baltimore Sun Going With A.I. Cartoons

A year after firing editorial cartoonist Kevin (KAL) Kallagher The Baltimore Sun has found a replacement: Artificial Intelligence.
The editorial cartoon for the Sept. 4, 2026 edition of The Baltimore Sun included a note stating it was “Produced using artificial intelligence tools by The Baltimore Sun editorial staff.”
Scrolling down The Baltimore Sun’s homepage for Sept. 4 reveals the A.I. cartoon was featured there.
This should not be surprising as The Baltimore Sun was already using A.I. to for “original” material.
The Daily Cartoonist does not know if this is the first such occurrence or if it has previously happened.
It does make it hard to feel sorry for the MAGAfied newspaper for taking a beating with circulation figures.
Capitol Communicator reports on the latest newspaper circulation numbers from the Alliance for Audited Media showing that “The Baltimore Sun and The Washington Post recording two of the largest drops among the nation’s 50 biggest audited newspapers.” With The Baltimore Sun experiencing “the largest year-over-year decline among the 50 newspapers.”
Aside: The newspaper serving the Florida retirement community The Villages “was the only title among the 50 to post year-over-year growth.”
