Paul Burke, a former comics publisher and entertainment executive, posted on the Library of American Comics Newspaper Strip Appreciation Facebook group that he is selling 10 posters from a fundraiser he did with 69 cartoonists back in the early 1970s.

He wrote:

I created this artwork with 69 artists 40+ years ago to raise funds to combat child abuse. I have not seen a poster in almost 40 years and did it bring back memories. I’m sad to say that off the 69 artists, almost all of them have passed away.

Thirty years ago, an antiques dealer bought an estate and found 200 posters. He found me a few weeks ago from the “Rebel Taste” article about me and contacted me.

He gave me a few dozen posters and I gave them to family and friends and have ten left to sell to collectors.

Author’s Note: I’ve been able to identify 62 of the 69 artist. Who am I missing? With the help of our readers, we’ve been able to identify all of the artists: Al Jaffee, Al Williamson, Arnold Roth, B. K. Taylor, B.   1. I am still comparing the last few illegible scrawls to the remaining names from the list, but I have already identified two missing cartoonists: Don Wilder and Mort Walker. In addition, the list contains two typos: it should be Sergio Aragonés and Tom Batiuk.

    1. I was finally able to find signatures for all 62 artists in the list above. While the drawing seems to include 69 names, Stan Drake appears twice, and one “signature” appears to read “©1986“. In addition to Don Wilder and Mort Walker, three other “missing” names are Jack Davis, Mel Crawford, and Frank Ridgeway. The one remaining signature that I could not identify is directly below the drawing of Marvin, just to the right of “Jim Davis”.

  3. I think the poster was done in the mid 1980’s.

    1. You are probably right. The tiny mark directly below “(Hank) Ketcham” appears to read “©1986“, which agrees perfectly with the “40+ years” mentioned in the offer.

    The poster is great… but what I want is the original.

    1. Glad to be of assistance! It was a fun puzzle, but I really wish I had been able to work with the high-resolution image that D.D. Degg found: that would have eliminated all of the guesswork.

  6. I cannot let Paul Burke’s comment that “almost all of them have passed away” stand uncorrected. Although their average age is over 80, nearly a third of those artists are still around: Arnold Roth, B. K. Taylor, Bill Schorr, Bob Foster, Cathy Guisewite, Dean Young, Don Dougherty, Greg Evans, Jerry Scott, Jerry Van Amerongen, Jim Davis, Jim Meddick, Joe Martin, Kevin Fagan, Mike Peters, Mike Royer, Morrie Turner, Ray Salmon, Russell Myers, Sergio Aragonés, Tom Armstrong, Tom Batiuk.

    2. I’m sorry to say that Bob Foster and Morrie Turner have passed away in recent years.

      1. Ooops. Hard to say how I missed those two; I thought I had searched for every single name. There was even an obituary for Bob Foster right here at TDC. That reduces the number of surviving contributors to 20.

  9. Hi all! Love this site. Just purchased one of the Voices for Children posters. Just a question for the group. On the Asylum web site where the poster was for sale, sold out now, the poster size says 20″ X 35″. The poster I received is 18.5″ X 25″. Is there two different poster sizes available or is that an error on the Asylum web site for the size of the poster. Thanks to all! Be Safe Have Fun!
