Finnish Institute Launches Sarjakuva 2026—The Year of Finnish Comics in France

An effort to promote Finnish comics in France has kicked off with “Sarjakuva 2026, the Year of Finnish Comics in France” The effort is to promote Finnish bande dessinée within France and promote exchanges between artists, professionals and comic fans. Sarjakuva 2026 is the brainchild of Kirsi Kinnunen, an award winning Finnish translator known for her work in translating comics.

  1. Hello!

Thank you very much for publishing a story about this project! As the producer and co-curator of the project I am honoured.

Nevertheless, I would like to know from where and whom you got the information that this is an initiative by the Finnish Institute?

Institut finlandais is one of the collaborators of the project “Sarjakuva 2026 – Année de la BD finlandaise en France” but it is not the initiator nor the financing nor the organising body of the project.

The project is an initiative of one person (Kirsi Kinnunen) and carried by the association for the international promotion of Finnish comics, called Siksi ry.

It has been financed by five Finnish institutions: Kone Foundation, Finnish Cultural Foundation, Frame Contemporary Art Finlande, Fili Finnish Literature Exchange and Finnish Embassy in France.

I am asking about your information sources in order to correct them as soon as possible.

Thank you already beforehand for your kind answer!

    1. Hi Kirsi, thanks for reaching out. I’ve responded to your comment via email.
