The Complete Comic Strip of the Day Archives
Skip to commentsWe are excited to announce the complete Comic Strip of the Day archives is now under one roof! As regular readers know, Mike Peterson has been posting his daily column here since 2018. Starting in 2010, he posted on an older blog platform. An end of service announcement gave us an opportunity to migrate Mike’s insightful column into TDC.

A life-long comic enthusiast, Mike created Comic Strip of the Day as an alternative to other comic critics that only to make fun of strips they didn’t like. Mike wanted to create something “to salute good work and link to where people could find it if their local paper wasn’t carrying it.”

Over the years his columns became longer and included more cartoons from US and international editorial cartoonists. While he’s stayed true to his intention to draw attention to great cartoons, Mike hasn’t been afraid to insert constructive criticism when he thinks it’s merited. Cartoons who are ripe for criticism are those that “lack of logic, twisting of facts or plain mean-spiritedness.” In 16 years, he’s only had one cartoonist take offense and ask not to be included in future columns.
We sometimes get inquiries on how to be included in Comic Strip of the Day. The first bar to clear is you have to do good, consistent work. Sooner or later Mike will find you. I’ve tried get a list of cartoonists from Mike but there is no master list. He gets up at an ungodly hour and spends a couple of hours scrolling through scores of websites, platforms, and social media looking for the cartoons to include. Before 9:00 am Eastern, he’s hitting publish. After a nap, he catches up on other reading material that he will incorporate into his analysis for a future column.
We hope you take a moment to scroll back through his earlier work. You can jump back to the pre-2018 work or just keep tabs on his whole body of work starting with his latest here.
