Comic Strip of the Day

CSotD: Now and Zen

On the Sunday when three-quarters of the cartoons are about New Year's, there's a fair amount of similar themes, but I particularly liked this contrast:

Sinfest is often thoughtful to the point of being enigmatic, but I don't think this piece is particularly hard to appreciate:

It's kind of nice that it's a webcomic and thus something people come to on purpose, since it deserves more than the 12 seconds it might get as part of a comics section.

By merry contrast, today's Deflocked isn't particularly New Year's themed, but it does take a little time to appreciate. The contrast being that it isn't particularly zen, either. A lot more Basil Fawlty than Alan Watts:

As for actual New Year's Resolutions, I hope Garry Trudeau has made one to keep throwing those fast balls right down the middle. We're supposed to bring everyone home over the next year-plus-a-little, and I don't think we're even slightly ready to deal with the legacy that will come home with them:

As for me, I don't usually make New Year's Resolutions, but this panel from today's Willy 'N Ethel has inspired me.

I resolve to shave my head and get this tattoo:

And, finally, here's a New Year's song that I grew up with, my father not only providing me with cartoons to contemplate but with all sorts of other forms of spiritual uplift and moral guidance.

I think I was about eight when I got my first record player. This little ditty promptly went into heavy rotation on my playlist:
