CSotD: Christmas Special: Looking Back

I've seen a couple of cartoons that riffed on the wall dividing Bethlehem, and then saw a report on Al Jazeera America about the stress the town is under. It reminded me of when I used to do a weekly educational feature on political cartoons, and, specifically, of this piece from December 28, 2005.

Normally, I'd use two different cartoonists commenting on the same topic, though not in the "point/counterpoint" format that often reaches — as in "stretches" — for contrast. Rather, I'd show how different cartoonists picked up on differing aspects of an issue, which is more interesting and doesn't force your choices quite so much.

In this case, I departed from custom and used two Christmas-themed cartoons by the same cartoonist — Austrian Wolfgang Ammer — to show how an artist makes choices. (As usual, click on the pic for a larger version.)

Merry Christmas. Here's to more dialog, more cooperation between nations and people, and fewer walls.
