Comic Strip of the Day

CSotD: Hey Rube!

ReubenWhile I was looking for something else — which you will see Sunday — I came across a stash of Rube Goldberg cartoons from 85 years ago.

And not only was Rube Goldberg a Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist best known for his zany invention cartoons (one might almost say), but he is the very Reuben whose name is attached to the very Reuben which is handed out once a year and is not to be confused with the plaques that are also called Reubens but shouldn't be. But are.

And whose sculpted figures adorn the statue that is properly called the Reuben.

Also I have a plane to catch.

So have some fun with these, which I think are particularly interesting because they aren't "The Best Of" but simply a dozen that dropped in the spring of 1913.

You'll likely have to click on them to enlarge them, or "open image in new tab" or possibly download them, in order to read them, but they're scanned at 500 dpi, so you can embiggen to your heart's delight.

Ding
I was going to include some pieces by Ding Darling, but he was suddenly taken homesick and was in the midst of moving from New York City back to Des Moines. He had not, as you may see, quite arrived there yet.
