CSotD: Geek humor for the rest of us

The prolific Bill Holbrook offers a gag in On the Fastrack today that avoids being too geeky for most people to understand but is up several steps from the "what is this consarn newfangled thing?" level.
I think there's a large number of people who, like me, know when the brakes on the car need adjusting but wouldn't know how to crawl under there and do it themselves, and have a similar relationship with our computers. When something goes wrong, I can often diagnose it, but that's not the same as knowing how to fix it.
And having just been though major trauma (aka "system restore") with my laptop, this one hit me just right. The Asus people are great — not a lot of time on hold, very solid language skills and, best of all, they are trained to kick you upstairs when their own knowledge won't solve the problem. The laptop itself is back up and running.
However, I've spent a lot of time on much more fruitless errands in restoring all the software and peripherals, including a few where, yes, I gave up and then realized it just needed something toggled.
