CSotD: Your mileage may vary … a little

And you thought moving Prickly City to DC was a change! Keith Knight has just added a whole new set of complications to the Knight Life.
This one was easier to see coming — Knight has been chronicling the pregnancy in virtually real-time, wringing every laugh out of that part of the process. And, while I like "cute precocious baby" strips as much as anyone, I expect him to be as dead-on realistic with this aspect of his life as he has been with the others.
I also expect it to be pretty funny, but I think his humor will be solidly grounded. While I don't stalk Keith Knight, I'm pretty sure his baby was born some time ago and that he's had time to ponder it all and gain some perspective. Lynn Johnston used to maintain a lag of a few years between her real life and the lives she portrayed in "For Better or For Worse," in part to minimize her children's embarrassment but also to gain that perspective.
Knight is a lot grittier in how he holds up his life for inspection, but it will be interesting to see how he handles this situation. Based on the strips he has done about his wife, his in-laws, his parents and his friends, his kid is going to grow up knowing that Dad is a cartoonist and the first complete sentence out of his mouth will likely start, "Well, that's not EXACTLY how it happened …"
Unless he decides that his life in four panels is more amusing than his life in three dimensions, in which case his teachers should brace themselves.
