Comic Strip of the Day

CSotD: So, okay, just how sharp ARE you?

Top Ten lists exist because:

A. It's important to mark the highlights of the past 12 months

B. People love lists, and it's a holiday tradition

C. Half the news staff is on vacation, as are all of the newsmakers.

Clay Jones gives away the answer with that last "Top Ten" list of his: "Top Ten List of Ways to Fill Content Without Original Material."

The last week of the year is not only a time of being short-staffed in most newsrooms, but, even if you've got a story in mind and someone to write it, they won't find any sources working who are  authorized to talk to the press.

Add to this the number of assistant editors who think they are underappreciated tastemakers and you now know why there are so many end-of-the-year lists.

Here's who's working this week:

Mike Peterson has posted his "Comic Strip of the Day" column every day since 2010. His opinions are his own, but we welcome comments either agreeing or in opposition.

  1. Not a list! I’m just saying Thank You for at least ten insights into comics I had never heard of and at least ten more I did know and enjoyed even more because of your comments.
Happy New Year to you and yours, with the hope that the world becomes a happier place in 2011!

  2. Inspired musical choice. I don’t think it ever made the top ten.

  3. Thanks, Gilda. I think of mine as a small but appreciative audience but can only confirm the “small” part.
And, Sherwood, when it comes to the Stones, I was an albums man until Brian Jones left. After that (well, after “Let It Bleed”), I only know their Top Forty tunes.

  4. That’s my history with their recordings, too, Mike. Remember “2120 South Michigan Avenue”? I used that as the theme music for the Saturday night music show the station manager let me do on the FM side of WCHN in Chenango County when I was in high school. One of the stipulations was that there were certain artists I was never to play, including the Rolling Stones. He obviously never knew about their only instrumental cut. http://www.flickr.com/photos/sherwoodh/3145615737/
