Comic Strip of the Day

CSotD: Required Canadian Content*

Pooch

Because some of my readers are in Canada, I am required to include a certain percentage of Canadian content in my blog. Also, Paul Gilligan's Pooch Cafe is frequently a hoot, which rhymes with "about" if you say it in his hometown of Toronto.

The current story arc has our hero, Poncho, trapped by a blizzard with only his arch-nemesis, the postman, for company. I like the strip anyway, but the serendipity of it coming out the same week the US Postal Service started sending up distress rockets adds significantly to the humor.

Incidentally, the Plattsburgh Press-Republican's offices are opposite the local post office. Like all papers, the P-R had, when I was a reporter there, a history of editorial grumbling over postal increases. In silent response, one of the postal clerks had a small piece of paper taped at his window showing the price increases in the cost of the newspaper over the years. He shoulda been a cartoonist.

There is a Pooch Cafe collection in the sidebar.

* this is a joke. The blog is full of 'em.
