Comic Strip of the Day

CSotD: Punch line? We don’t need no punchline!

Piranha

Most Sundays, you'll see a strip or two that are clearly weekday strips, only the cartoonist, on deadline and desperate, has padded the thing out to make a three-panel gag fit a multi-panel Sunday format.

Not in this case. Bud Grace has taken a joke that wouldn't have worked in a three- or four-panel format and not only put it into a Sunday, but then used the maximum number of panels to boot. And there's the appeal of Piranha Club: This is a really stupid joke, and he's not in the least apologetic about it. Not only does he drag it out, but he doesn't even have a final panel where the doctor is sitting in the bar saying something about the encounter. He just uses that last panel to hit us over the head with the hammer one more time.

  1. Hi Mike. I know it’s old but we are getting there. I work in a retirement campus
most people over 85. But the way he did it was great. I laughed thinking about all the people that go to the doctor’s all the time
and they are still getting older..Wonder if it was like this if they forgot their hearing aids….Keith
