We had two lovely exhibitions at the “International Center“, Press Cartoons museum in St Just le Martel, France this year. One of the shows was about Donkeys and Elephants.
American donkey and elephant cartoons make no sense to foreign audiences. Our exhibit in France was curated by cartoons historian Olivier Auvray, who invited six cartoonists in our group to show their best donkey/elephant cartoons, which were presented with explanations –even with the explanations, the cartoons seemed seemed pretty difficult for the French fans to comprehend.

win The College Fix’s editorial cartoon contest.
Three budding young artists have won The College Fix’s editorial cartoon contest, launched in early September in search of emerging talent in this important, educational and entertaining field.
The contest was developed in the wake of the departure of The Fix’s resident editorial cartoonist Pat Cross. It offered a top prize of $1,000 for first place, $500 for second, and $250 for third.

Clark is a 23-year-old writer, artist and pro-life activist. She is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
As an undergrad, she worked as a student reporter for The College Fix.
Jim Carrey Returns to Political Cartooning
and the right-wing Breitbart isn’t happy about it.
Actor Jim Carrey, who previously announced that he will no longer be posting political cartoons, broke his pledge (again) by posting a cartoon featuring wolves tearing apart the Statue of Liberty while U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland appears to run away in fear.

Last year, the Liar Liar star announced that he would no longer be posting political cartoons — echoing a vow he made and soon broke in early 2020…
The Dumb and Dumber star went on to say that he did not mean to ignore his “main Twitter followers” over the years by having what appeared to be an incessant need to post politically-charged artwork to his account.

Interestingly, as I look back over many of my earlier cartoons, quite a few found humor in risqué material and double-entendre gags. There was a willingness to go there that I don’t see in my more recent cartoons. It might be that it’s only me that’s has changed. I am 30 years older, of course. But I also think that there has been a shift in public sensibilities.
Probably no single phenomenon has more to do with that than social media. The experience has become very tribal. Nowadays, people brand themselves by aligning with causes and ideology — be it feminism, LGBTQ culture, MAGA or Never Trumper — and often they strongly rebuke those who run afoul their views. How can one not be more circumspect in this environment?
