Local Cartoonist Gets Booked – A Will Henry Epic

A Jamestown resident whose comic strip pays homage to his hometown is releasing another book on the exploits of his whimsical characters.

“Wicked Epic Adventures,” the third collection of “Wallace the Brave” comic strips, hits the shelves Tuesday. The strip is drawn by Will Wilson, under the pen name Will Henry, and is printed in more than 100 daily newspapers across the country.

Wilson works to highlight his hometown in the comic by using imagery that his neighbors would recognize. For example, there are offshore houses that resemble Clingstone and coves similar to the inlets at Fort Wetherill.

“I try to include them as much as I can,” he said. “The funky, the obscure and the just plain beautiful.”

In “Wicked Epic Adventures,” about a quarter of the book features story arcs, while the rest are one-off strips. There also are comics that have continuity between them, but are not part of an arc. Nearly one-quarter of the book comes from a summerlong storyline where Wallace has a cast on his arm, and another arc is about a hurricane headed toward Snug Harbor. The storyline was inspired by Wilson’s experience living in Jamestown when Hurricane Sandy hit the island in 2012.

  1. Such a superb strip. It certainly ought to be in a lot more than 100 papers! Currently my favorite strip, to be honest.

  2. Wallace may not be the best strip in production, but it would have to at least make the shortlist.
